REHAB
THROUGH CRAFT

problem statement

Artisans in Zimbabwe face immense economic pressures that threaten the survival of their craft. The country’s high unemployment rate has forced many to seek alternative means of survival, often at the expense of preserving their skills. The influx of cheaper"Made in China" goods has flooded the market, additionally, the prevalence of second-hand clothing has significantly impacted the local textile and fashion industries, making it even harder for artisans to compete.

the solution

To support artisans in Zimbabwe and preserve traditional craftsmanship, we propose a multi-faceted empowerment initiative focused on skills development, market access, and sustainable livelihoods. The program will establish local creative hubs where artisans receive training in design innovation, quality improvement, and entrepreneurship. These hubs will also serve as co-creation spaces for collaboration with regional and international designers, enabling artisans to adapt their crafts for contemporary markets without losing cultural integrity. A strong digital presence will be developed to help artisans reach global customers through e-commerce platforms, storytelling, and social media marketing. Additionally, curated exhibitions and pop-up markets will raise awareness and generate income locally and abroad. To tackle competition from low-cost imports, the program will advocate for policies that protect local industries while promoting a "Buy Zimbabwe" movement to encourage national pride and consumer support. By championing innovation, building networks, and increasing visibility, we empower artisans to thrive economically while safeguarding Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.

social innovation

To support Zimbabwean artisans, we have established creative hubs for training in design, quality control, and entrepreneurship. These hubs help artisans adapt their crafts for contemporary markets while preserving cultural heritage. We aim to create a strong digital presence through e-commerce platforms and social media to increase global visibility. By organising exhibitions and advocating for local protection policies, we will boost artisans' income, advocate national pride, and empower artisans to compete in  global markets.
